The Milford Track is a four day walk, considered to be one of
the best walking experiences in the world. If
you do not have four days available Real Journeys, in association
with Trips ‘n’ Tramps, offers the chance to experience
part of this world famous track on a one day guided walk.

The Mount Cook Encounter is a guided day walk up the Hooker
Valley, providing breathtaking views of some of New Zealand's
highest and most enthralling peaks.
Your day begins at the Activities Desk of the Hermitage Hotel,
from here we head to the White Horse Hill camping ground by
courtesy coach.
Enjoy a stunning 4km (2.5 mile) trek along the well maintained
track to the terminal lake of the Hooker Glacier. The journey
encompasses an Alpine Memorial and passes over the turbulent
River by swingbridge, to unsurpassed vistas of Aoraki Mount
Cook's south face and the surrounding glaciers.
Your guide will point out the unique features of this alpine
world as you enjoy lunch in the shadow of New Zealand's and
Oceania's highest peak, standing at 3,754 metres.
There are a number of shorter walks around the village, all
of different distances and gradients. For those who want a little
more let your guide introduce you to one of the bush tracks
in the native forest, or even challenge yourself with a sharp
climb to finish your day. Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is
a walker's paradise, and the possibilities are endless!
We provide everything
We provide everything from door to door transport, all food,
hot drinks, free loan of day packs and rainjackets, sunscreen
and insect repellent to an emergency radio system for complete
safety.
All you need is walking boots or shoes, a bottle of water, warm
clothing and your camera! As you walk your guide will
share their knowledge of the unique flora, fauna, history and
geography of the region.
Our walks are tailored to suit all ages, abilities and confidence
levels. To get maximum enjoyment from your day everyone
is encouraged to walk at their own pace.Our guided day walks,
the 'Encounters', are the perfect way to sample one of
New Zealand's best walking tracks.
You will be visiting a wilderness area but we do have access
to some comforts such as toilets and hot water.
Your guide carries a radio for emergencies, otherwise there
is no contact with the outside world.
