The journey across Cook Strait, from New
Zealand's capital city, Wellington, in the North Island, across
to Picton, which is nestled in the heart of the Marlborough
Sounds in the South Island, is one of the most scenic crossings
in the world.
The Interislander
There are two ships in the Interislander fleet, Arahura and
Aratere.
Arahura is the largest passenger ship; Aratere is the newest
ship of Interislander fleet - launched in January 1999.
Both ships provide a wide range of onboard facilities and entertainment
with comfortable lounges and decks from which to take in some
of New Zealand's most breath-taking scenery. |

Space on the ferries
becomes limited during the holiday season (November - February),
school holidays and at peak times, especially if you are travelling
with a vehicle.
Bookings are essential and are available up to six months
in advance. Don't just turn up hoping for a ride on a Saturday
morning at 0930.
Book early and be sure!
