Graceful,
charming, vibrant, cosmopolitan - all describe Christchurch
very well. Festivals, theatres and art galleries abound. One
of the world's most famous railway journeys, the TranzAlpine,
makes its daily journey between Christchurch and Greymouth,
over viaducts and through some of the most spectacular alpine
scenery to be found. The powerful blowholes of the Pancake
Rocks are a "must" at Punakaiki. The Southern Alps' highest
peak is Mount Cook (3,754m) and its most famous alpine village
is Queenstown, on the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
